Allein, dass die seit Bach 'temperierte Oktave' (West) sich der 'natürlichen Oktave' (Ost) gegenüberstellt, scheint unvereinbar zu sein. Durch das Aufgreifen und Konfrontieren der gegensätzlichen musikalisch-philosophischen Dimensionen wird ein Konzertprogramm für Sitar und 5-Saiten Violoncello präsentiert, in welchem nebst auf Harmonik basierenden Anordnungen modal komponierte, improvisatorisch wirkende Passagen – Raga (melodische Elemente) und Tala (Rhythmus) – zu einem intensiven Klang-Erleben vereint werden. Strukturelle Rhythmik, mikrotonale Experimente und 'Soundbäder' lassen die Korrespondenz 'zwischen den Welten' erklingen. Die Absicht des Avant-Rag Duos besteht darin, die indisch klassische Musik mit westlichen Musiktraditionen – unter dem Einfluss von Barock, Jazz und Avantgarde – zu verbinden.

The very fact that, ever since Bach, the ‘well-tempered scale’ (West) has been juxtaposed to the ‘natural scale’ (East) seems incompatible. The confrontation of these disparate musical and philosophical dimensions results in a concert programme for sitar and 5-string cello where arrangements based on harmonics and modal compositions and passages with an improvisatory flavour – Raga (melodic elements) and Tala (rhythm) – are woven into an intense sound experience. Rhythmic structures, microtonal experiments and ‘sound baths’ blend together into a correspondence ‘between the worlds’. It is the intention of the Avant-Rag Duo to combine Indian classical music with western music traditions – feeding in baroque, jazz and avant-garde influences.
